Join us at The IMAG History and Science Center for a summer filled with STEM & history! Campers will have a blast while inventing, experimenting, exploring, and investigating in our all new immersive one-week camps. Plus, they will also explore the museum, experience our live Animal Encounters, participate in our all new Science Shows, get up close with our sea life in our Touch Tank, meet dinosaurs and titans of the ice age in our 3D Theater, and go back in time with our Virtual Reality Experience! Our number one goal is FUN- with a big side of LEARNING!

Camp IMAG sessions include fun and educational hands-on activities, games, crafts, special guests, and exhibit explorations! Innovative curriculum integrating STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math), history, the arts, and humanities, inspires the imagination and encourages an overall love of learning! Camps are designed for rising 1st-8th graders and are divided into rising 1st-2nd graders, rising 3rd – 5th graders, and rising 6th – 8th graders.

Non-Members-$225/ per week

Registration

You can register for camp by clicking on the camp of your choice in the calendar below. If you are a member, you should log into the member portal and register through there to have your member discount automatically applied. Registration closes for each week of camp at 11:55 PM on the Thursday prior to the start of that week. All fees for each camp must be paid in full by the first day of each week of camp.

Pre-Camp

Pre-camp is available from 8:00 AM – 8:45 AM for an additional $5 per day. Pre-camp can be purchased during the registration process or on a daily basis upon arrival.

Post-Camp

Post-camp is available from 4:15 PM – 5:30 PM for an additional $5 per day. Post-camp can be purchased during the registration process or upon arrival the morning it is needed. If a camper remains in camp after 4:15 PM, you will automatically be billed $5 for post-camp and it will be due upon pick up that day. Please note there is a $3 per minute late charge for any camper pick up past 5:31 PM.

9:00 AM – 4:00 PM

Sign In/Out

Sign in for camp will take place starting at 8:45 AM in the Education Room. Camp officially starts at 9:00 AM. Sign out for camp will also take place in the Education Room starting at 4:00 PM and ending at 4:15 PM. All persons picking up a camper MUST be on the authorized pick up list and have a photo I.D. with them.

Lunch

Box lunches are available for $6 each and include a Lunchable or Uncrustable, chips, fruit snacks, and a juice box. Lunches must be ordered during registration or no later than the Friday prior to camp for the $6 rate. Any camper that arrives without a lunch will be provided with a Lunchable or Uncrustable, chips, fruit snacks, and a juice box for $6, which will be due upon pick up.

Make Fridays even more fun by indulging in some delicious pizza from Downtown House of Pizza. Pre-order your serving during registration or no later than Thursday afternoon. Orders for pizza will not be accepted on Fridays as the order will be placed Thursday afternoon. Pizza lunch will include one slice of cheese or pepperoni pizza, chips, fruit snacks, and a juice box for $6. An additional slice of pizza can be purchased for $4.

Camp Dress Code

Campers must wear the designated camp t-shirt every day. One t-shirt will be handed out per registrant for free as a courtesy each season. Additional day camps or weekly sessions will not include additional shirts. Additional t-shirts may be pre-ordered during registration or purchased at any time online or in person for $10 each. Campers who come to camp without a t-shirt will be given a new t-shirt and a $10 will be assessed to your registration. Learn about the science behind super powers, such as their connections to real plants and animals, the weather, physics, and more! Then test out your own super powers, design your alter ego and super hero or villain costume, create your own gadgets, and compete in Super IMAG Academy challenges!

Week 2 (June 10th-14th) Clue: IMAG Edition A crime has been committed at The IMAG and you are the only one that can solve it! Learn crime scene investigation skills as you examine clues throughout The IMAG and solve the crime!

Week 3 (June 17th-21st) Critter Keepers Get up close and personal with the IMAG’s animal residents as you learn all about them and how to care for them!

Week 4 (June 24th-28th) Adopt-a-Bot Explore the world of robotics as you learn now to maneuver Spheros and Ollies, practice coding with Osmos and Ozobots, and build Noodlebots, Vibrobots and Bristlebots to take home!

Week 5 (July 1st-5thIMAG Master Chef Calling all aspiring chefs! In this camp you will blend science and culinary arts as you mix up your own unique flavor of ice cream using liquid nitrogen, melt and mold chocolate into fun shapes, brew a batch of dry ice root beer, and even make homemade pop rocks! At the end of the week you will try to impress The IMAG judges with your new wild culinary skills.

Week 6 (July 8th-12th) Lego Engineers Use Legos to build everything from marble mazes to catapults to wind powered cars and more!

Week 7 (July 15th-19th) Mix and Mash Explore the messy, ooey, gooey, icky, sticky side of science and art as you mix slippery slime, erupt foamy elephant toothpaste, make colorful bubble prints, create explosive splatter paintings, and more!

Week 8 (July 22nd-26th) Backyard Scientists Step outside and turn our backyard into your science lab! Learn about insects and plants through hands-on experiments. Play with giant bubble wands, make sun prints, dissect owl pellets, make nesting hangers, and more!

Week 9 (July 29th-August 2nd) The Fast and the Curious The camp classroom will be transformed into a garage for the week! Campers will build a variety of cars and boats to use in races, mazes, and obstacle courses throughout the week.

Week 10 (August 5th-9th) The Wright Stuff Look to history then let your imagination take flight as you design and test a variety of flying machines, in the spirit of the famous Wright brothers. You will learn about principles of flight as you design gliders that zip through the air or do stunts, send balloon helicopters twirling, and even launch rockets!

Week 1 (June 3rd-7th) Nailed It Inspired by the hit show, campers will attempt to recreate Pinterest baking and craft masterpieces through silly team challenges.

Week 2 (June 10th-14th) As Seen On… Try out some of the most popular, wild and messy science experiments featured on YouTube! Erupt an elephant toothpaste geyser like Science Bob! Launch hundreds of Alka-Seltzer rockets all at one time like Steve Spangler! Make a Walking Water Rainbow like WhizKidScience! Then create your own science video you can upload to your channel or ours!

Week 3 (June 17th-21st) Wizard School Look for your acceptance letter in the mail and join The IMAG’s Wizard School for a week! Get sorted into your house for the week. Attend classes on potions, charms, magical creatures and more! Make a unique wand, adopt a magical pet, and compete in a wizards’ scavenger hunt. Graduate in a special ceremony at the end of the week.

Week 4 (June 24th-28th) Game of Games Based on Ellen’s fun game show, Game of Games, campers will compete in silly, and sometimes oversized, challenges like Danger Word, In Your Face, Pie Face, the Game of Things, and some challenges they design throughout the week!

Week 5 (July 1st-5th) How to Train Your Robot Design and build a robot, then “train” it to do different tasks using Lego Mindstorms, Spheros, Ollies, and more!

Week 6 (July 8th-12th) Spy School Do you have what it takes to be a spy? Learn how to crack and create codes, build spy equipment and gadgets, complete physical obstacle courses, and create your own disguise. Then go on a Top-Secret Mission!

Week 7 (July 15th-19th) Frankenputer Breathe new life into old computers and tech as you create new things from “dead” tech! This camp will have you shouting, “It’s alive!!!!”

Week 8 (July 22nd-26th) Kit Hackers Take pre-made science kits and figure out all new ways to use the materials included in the kit! Launch a rocket using supplies from a gum making kit! Make exploding bags from an ice cream making kit! Completely change the design of a robot kit! Or use a soap making kit to create a crazy optical illusion and giant bouncing bubbles!

Week 9 (July 29th-August 2nd) STEAMHunt Compete in a fun, challenging STEAM based scavenger hunt with teams from all over the country! Teams will get their list of 100 scavenger hunt items/challenges on Monday and will work all week to complete them! There will be opportunities to share their completed items and interact with other teams online throughout the week.

Week 10 (August 5th-9th) Blockbuster Science Explore the science behind big blockbuster movie special effects and conduct science experiments based on some of your favorite films. Perfect your Wingardium Leviosa spell by using our static sticks, build a Lego catapult from the Lego Movie, freeze and shatter things like Elsa, build a Rube Goldberg machine like the Goonies did, and more!

Grades 6-8

Week 2 (June 10th-14th) Tech Garage Grab your tools and get ready work in a Fab Lab! Design and print 3D objects. Use our laser cutter and vinyl cutter to make things you design in Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator. Transform old tech into new tech! If you can dream it and plan it, you can make it!

Week 3 (June 17th-21st) IMAG Sci Fi Channel Inspired by the “bad” science fiction films created by the SyFy Channel, campers will write and produce their very own bad sci fi film!

Week 4 (June 24th-28th) Ice Cream Wars Learn about the colder side of science through experiments with dry ice and liquid nitrogen. End each day by whipping up a unique batch of liquid nitrogen ice cream like purple root beer or neon green banana flavor! On Friday, compete in an ice cream challenge!

Week 6 (July 8th-12th) Drones, Droids, and Robots… Oh My! Explore the world of robotics! Use Lego Mindstorms, Spheros, Ollies, Drones, and other types of technology to complete different challenges and tasks, fly through an obstacle course, maneuver a through a maze, and more!

Week 7 (July 15th-19th) IMAG: Behind the Scenes Learn about The IMAG’s Live Science Shows and Animal Shows, then work as a team to create a brand-new show for the The IMAG!

Junior Camp Assistant Program 2019

 The Jr. Camp Assistant Training Program is an exciting professional development opportunity for rising 9th -12th  grade students who are interested in working with children in an educational setting during our Camp IMAG weekly Spring/Winter/Summer sessions. Students can apply to assist camp educators with the day-to-day camp activities. Be sure to check with your school for volunteer hours or community service credit!

Interested students (and their parents) should complete the application attached and return it to the IMAG Science and History Center for review. Museum staff will email to confirm application. Only a few spots will be filled based on performance and attendance during camp sessions. $45 Training fee applies.

Mandatory training date 5/22/19 (Time TBD).

Training Session Fee Includes:

  • Professional development training session with pizza
  • Individual one-year membership to the IMAG History & Science Center
  • Personalized Certificate of Appreciation (Upon completion of assignment)

JUNIOR CAMP ASSISTANT APPLICATION

Summer Camp IMAG Scholarship Fund

The Camp IMAG Camp Scholarship Fund aims to maximize educational opportunity for all children. The IMAG History & Science Center is committed to supporting our community, especially in the area of STEM Education. The Camp IMAG Scholarship Fund supports families in need by offering tuition assistance for rising 1st to 8th graders to our STEM and history camps. Applications for the need-based scholarships will be submitted to and reviewed by a third-party organization who will determine the award recipients. Each award recipient will receive one week of paid camp tuition (a $225 value), as well as a free Annual Family Membership (a $100 value) to the IMAG History & Science Center for up to 2 adults and 4 children. We are so proud to offer this program and be a part of expanding STEM and history education in our community.

Application Instructions:

1)  Parent or guardians will need to complete the bottom portion of this application and submit it to the Director of Awesome, Sara Turner, no later than March 31st, 2019.

2)  Students will need to submit a one-page essay covering the following questions

  • What is it about STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) and/or history that interests you the most?
  • Why would you like to attend camp IMAG?
  • How would this scholarship benefit you?
  • Parents may transcribe the essay for students Grades 1-2 with this portion and these students may submit a drawing.

3)  Attach a letter of recommendation from a teacher or mentor that address the following:

  • Why is this student deserving of a camp IMAG scholarship?
  • What interests does the student show regarding STEM and/or history?
  • How would this scholarship benefit this student and their future in STEM and/or history?

4)  Parents should provide documentation demonstrating financial need.

SUMMER CAMP SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION

Summer Employment Opportunities

IMAG History & Science Center is hiring instructors and two coordinators for our Science and History summer camps. As a camp instructor, you will be responsible for inspiring kids (ages 5-13 years old) to engage in hands-on STEM and history activities. The ideal candidates are passionate about STEM and/or history and have the proper classroom management skills to make camp-learning fun and exciting.  Haven’t taught camp before? Not a problem! We provide the training you need before camp starts. Camp instructor applicants will complete a general application and submit a resume to be considered for an in-person interview. We will determine which type of camp is the best fit with your background and availability. Camp Coordinators will assist the Director of Awesome with running all aspects of the summer camps. This will include, but is not limited to, creating weekly camp rosters; overseeing sign in/out; processing payments for t-shirts, lunches, and pre/post camp; shopping for, organizing and distributing camp supplies; covering teacher lunch breaks; handling injuries and behavior issues; providing camp coverage due to instructor absence; supervising Junior Camp Assistants; assisting camp instructors as needed; and other camp duties, as needed. Previous camp experience and program coordination a plus. Camp Coordinator applicants will complete a general application and submit a resume to be considered for an in-person interview.
